Description

Carl Christian Schurz was a German revolutionary, involved in the 1848 revolution. Following the revolution, he immigrated to America, settling in Philadelphia. In 1861 he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Spain. He served during the Civil War for the Union, commanding the "German regiments."
