Abstract
Research suggests that at the global and national level, there is poor performance in financial literacy. For example, the mean score on a national survey of financial literacy conducted by the Council for Economic Education was 50%. An anonymous survey was conducted to observe the financial literacy of Lancaster County students ages 15-18 years old to compare their knowledge to the results from the literature. This survey was answered by 55 participants from a public school, a private school, and a university. Results from this survey show the proficiency in financial literacy of local students was higher than reported in related literature. The mean score is 75% correct. Further, there is no difference in performance among the various types of schools. Finally, there is no difference in performance based on students’ previous exposure to financial literacy topics.
